Hi there! My name is Sabbath Davies. I am married to a wonderful man, and I have a toddler. We currently live in Des Moines, IA and are loving it! My daughter, more than anything, has been my inspiration for heading down this path. During our pregnancy with her, I was blessed to meet a wonderful doula and childbirth educator, named Sarah Smith (Pure Light Birth Services), who helped steer me in the right direction. My pregnancy and my birthing experience were life altering. I knew from that moment that I wanted to be involved in birth, in whatever fashion I was able to be. After much thought and consideration, I decided that I would follow in the footsteps of my inspiration and become a Birth Doula. After that, I persued education as a childbirth educator, and finally, a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. I am about to enroll in Midwifery School, so soon I will be a Certified Professional Midwife.
A lot of people ask me why my business is called Ganesa (guh-ness-uh) Birth Services. I named my business after Ganesa, or more commonly known as Ganesha. Ganesha, a Hindu God, is the remover of obstacles. Furthermore, Ganesa is depicted as an elephant headed God. I have a deep seated love of elephants. There is a habit of elephants that I find most intriguing. Elephants, when birthing their babies, are generally surrounded by 'elephant midwives'. The other females in the group will circle around the mother elephant, stroking her, beating their feet, protecting the space for her to give birth. When elephants are in captivity and this is not available to them, more often than not birth is complicated to say the least. Interventions become necessary. But, all these Mama Elephants need is their female counterparts to protect their birthing space. I love this about them! Ganesa has meant so much to me personally, and elephant midwives just encapsulate what a 'normal' birth should be for most women.
